Designation: Systems Engineer

Job Description:

Project Summary & Position Overview:
The candidate will be responsible for application change and incident management, application configuration management and production support of strategic web-based applications on a variety of technology platforms. This position includes hours outside the established work schedule as needed and requires being part of an on-call rotation. A general understanding of Thomson and West business processes, product lines, and internal and external customers is also preferred.Application Management Services has team members on all shifts. This position will be a rotational position across all three shifts during the first three months of training with final placement to be determined after the completed training cycle.

Essential Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
• Perform application releases following established documentation and procedures
• Perform incident management activities to mitigate issues that affect the availability of supported applications. This includes being part of a rotating on-call pager rotation outside your normally scheduled hours
• Work with developers to implement applications into production and construct an on-going support model ensuring operational readiness
• Provide well-written documentation and serve as the technical contact on projects supported by group
• Represent team at various organizational meetings related to maintenance, ongoing departmental projects, and customer relationships as it pertains to Application Management Services functions

Shift Working:Candidates should be willing to work in 24x7 Shift.

Desired Profile :

Education:
• Four-year college degree preferred
• Two-year technical college degree or equivalent work experience acceptable
• Former application support experience is a must

Required Skills:
• Working knowledge of Windows Server 2000/2003 or UNIX / LINUX platforms
• Working experience of web technologies, browsers and terminology (i.e. HTML, Active Server Pages, CGI, XML, JSP, .net, etc.)
• IBM WebSphere application servers experience
• Tomcat application server experience
• Understanding of network and database technologies a plus
• Former application support experience
• Working knowledge of one or more operating systems with a strong interest in application support, tools, application integrity and overall systems configuration
• Demonstrated ability to learn new platforms and technologies with a keen interest in expanding and applying this knowledge as new ones emerge
• Independence to acquire and maintain technical skills for professional development
• Willingness and enthusiasm to support a variety of applications, crossing multiple platforms, including providing 24x7 pager coverage on a rotating basis
• General knowledge of Thomson Legal & Regulatory products is preferred
• Excellent written and verbal communications
